Nat White - Board Member

Nat WhiteNat is retired from 38 years as an a stronomer, engineer, and project manager with the Lowell Observatory. His current activities include Member of the Governing Board of Coconino Community College (elected position); Past Chair and Board Member, Arizona Association of District Governing Boards; President of the Coconino-Flagstaff Public Library Foundation; Past Chair and board member of the Flagstaff Community Band; Advisory Board and past officer with the Flagstaff Leadership Program; and Member of Citizen’s Advisory Council for updating the Flagstaff Regional Plan.

Nat earned his A.B. in Physics from Earlham College, his M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Astronomy from Ohio State University, and his B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from Northern Arizona University. He has over 50 reviewed publications in astronomy and instrumentation, and managed the construction and operation of the Navy Prototype Optical Interferometer on Anderson Mesa east of Flagstaff.

Nat has served on the Flagstaff City Council and as Vice-Mayor and received the Friends of Flagstaff’s Future Liveable Community Award. He hold numerous course records for running, and is in the College Athletic Hall of Fame.

Besides running, he enjoys survival hikes and rebuilding old vehicles. Nat plays trombone in several local bands. He is married with three children, all born, raised, and living in Flagstaff.
