Rebecca Sayers - Board Secretary

Rebecca SayersRebecca Sayers has been the Section Head for the Sustainability and Environmental Management Section of the Public Works Division of the City of Flagstaff since the creation of the Section in 2006.

Rebecca and her team work closely with all city departments to make both city operations and the entire Flagstaff community more efficient and sustainable. The Section also works to ensure the city is in compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations and operates a permanent hazardous waste drop-off center for residents and small businesses. Under Rebecca’s guidance, in the fall of 2009, her team embarked on a new Residential Energy Efficiency Program that is funded from the Department of Energy’s Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant. By helping to make local residents’ homes more energy efficient this program will retain or create up to 12 local jobs, eliminate the emission of five million pounds of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, and save nearly $200,000 in utility costs annually.

Rebecca’s educational background includes a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science from Phillips University and a Master of Science degree in Forestry from Northern Arizona University.

Rebecca enjoys spending time with her husband, Todd, and chocolate labrador retreiver, Ginger. She also enjoys reading, camping and hiking. In addition to SEDI, Rebecca is Secretary of the Board of the Flagstaff Leadership Program, a local non-profit dedicated to educating leaders in the Flagstaff community about local issues, services, and initiatives.
