Resources and Opportunities : Sunshine Wind Park & Grapevine Canyon Wind Ranch Foresight Wind Energy, LLC is working to develop wind energy facitilites on ranch lands east of Flagstaff. Wind energy has been identified as a desired alternative for additional economic development in the Diablo Canyon Rural Planning Area. Sunshine Wind Park would be sited on lands leased from the Hopi Tribe, Bar-T-Bar Ranch and other private lands. The project was permitted as a conditional use by Coconino County in spring 2005, and is currently being marketed to an Arizona utility for a power sale contract. 40 wind turbines with 60 megawatts of generating capacity are planned, enough electricity to serve the annual electricity needs of more than 14,000 homes, or the equivalent of 66% of Flagstaff residences. Grapvine Canyon Wind Ranch is a partnership between Foresight and the Flying M Ranch. Still in the feasibility study phase, the project could generate up to 500 megawatts of electrical energy.
